Annual Maintenance & Inspection Notice for High-Voltage Substations (Main Campus, 2026)

20260709 Second Schedule Revision: Notice of Annual High-Voltage Substation Maintenance and Power Outage (Main Campus, 2026)

Locations Affected: Please refer to the attached schedule.
Duration: Please refer to the attached schedule.

Due to an unexpected emergency generator failure at the College of Biomedical Science, the maintenance schedule for the MOF2 Circuit has been readjusted. This secondary revision is necessary to mitigate experimental safety risks caused by a lack of backup power. All departments are strictly requested to prepare according to this finalized timeline:

  • July 12, 2026 (Sunday) — NO POWER OUTAGE ON THIS DATE
    • Originally Scheduled Facilities: College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), Life Science Building II, Life Science Building I, and the Biotechnology Building.
    • Revised Status: Due to safety concerns regarding the generator failure, no maintenance will be performed today (power will remain ON). This maintenance window has been postponed to August 22.
    • (Note: The Nuclear Reactor Division, Isotope Division, Ion Accelerator Laboratory, Photo-Electronics Laboratory, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Environmental Sciences, and the South Campus Wastewater Treatment Plant—which were removed from this date in the previous notice—will also maintain regular power today.)
  • August 2, 2026 (Sunday) — OUTAGE WILL PROCEED AS SCHEDULED (Per June 26 Announcement)
    • Affected Facilities for Annual Maintenance: Nuclear Reactor Division, Isotope Division, Ion Accelerator Laboratory, Photo-Electronics Laboratory, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Environmental Sciences (Engineering Building II), and the South Campus Wastewater Treatment Plant.
    • Revised Status: The schedule for this group remains unchanged from the previous announcement. The power outage and annual facility maintenance will proceed today as planned. All affected units must comply with the standard shutdown protocols.
  • August 22, 2026 (Saturday) — NEW OUTAGE AND MAINTENANCE DATE ADDED
    • Affected Facilities for Annual Maintenance: College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), Life Science Building II, Life Science Building I, and the Biotechnology Building.
    • Revised Status: Annual facilities and equipment maintenance for these four buildings has been officially moved from July 12 to today.

Reason for Outage:

  • Scheduled annual maintenance and safety inspection of all high-voltage substation facilities and equipment across the campus.
  • During the outage, all departments, institutes, and dormitory units within the affected areas must unplug all computers and laboratory equipment, and power supplies at distribution boards and switch boxes should be disconnected for safety and to prevent damage during power restoration.
  • Physical notices will be posted in addition to this email. If work finishes early, power will be restored without notice. We apologize for the inconvenience.
  • The end times in the schedule are estimates based on inspection progress.
    • Early Completion: Power will be restored early without further notice.
    • Unforeseen Delays: Restoration may be delayed if emergency repairs are needed.
  • If you have scheduled important meetings or activities during this time, please assess the impact and consider a backup plan or rescheduling due to potential changes in work progress or restoration times.

Your cooperation in preparing for this outage in advance is greatly appreciated.
